Liquor Authority conducts over 325 inspections between 4 and 10 October

The Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, today welcomes reports of enforcement activities by the Western Cape Liquor Authority. 

In terms of the report covering the period 4 to 10 October 2021, a total of 325 inspections were conducted. A total of 198 inspections focusing specifically on underage drinking were conducted, with five integrated operations conducted with SAPS and Law Enforcement.

A total of 26 compliance notices were issued to licence holders, while 19 non-compliance cases were submitted for prosecution. Eleven licence holders were also prosecuted for contravention of the Act and/or licence conditions. Four licence holders were fined, with total fines to the value of R50 000. 

Inspections were conducted in a total of 25 areas, including Belhar, Bot River, Edgemead, Greyton, Gugulethu, Harare, Kleinvlei, Matroosfontein, Wallacedene and others.

Intergrated operations with SAPS and law enforcement were conducted in the areas of Michells Plain, Moorreesburg, Kuils River, Gugulethu and Harare, Makaza, Kuyasa, Site B and Site C in Khayelitsha.

Minister Fritz said, “We are working hard to reduce alcohol related harms in our province. We are pushing the work rate of the Liquor Authority, while maintaining standards of quality. I want to thank all of our colleagues at the Liquor Authority for their great work. Your work rate and professionalism is really appreciated.”

Minister Fritz concluded, “I would like to appeal to all our citizens to have a good and safe weekend. Please enjoy yourselves responsibly. Our enforcement agencies will be out again, as always, to ensure that we reduce alcohol related harms in our communities.”
