Members of the media are invited to attend the Western Cape Government’s Department of Social Development’s Women’s Month celebration on Friday, 01 September 2023 in Atlantis.
The event was originally planned as a Women’s Day event for 08 August 2023, but had to be postponed due to the minibus taxi strike.
During the month of August, the department has been empowering single mothers from different socio-economic backgrounds by making them aware of opportunities for long-term sustainability.
Gender inequality remains the greatest barrier to women’s participation and access to opportunities. Those living in low-income, crime-ridden communities face even bigger challenges.
On 1 September Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Sharna Fernandez, will meet the women who are part of this empowerment project. The day will be spent celebrating and encouraging the women, and sharing information on parenting tips, DSD-related services, and economic opportunities.
