Interruption of Water Supply to Delft Area

19 April 2010
The City of Cape Town's Water and Sanitation Department will be installing a pressure management system on the water supply network feeding the Delft area during the night of Tuesday 20 April 2010. This follows the recent series of pressure tests conducted on the water supply network on 08 April 2010.

In order to do the installation the water supply to the Delft area will be shut off at 20:00 tonight (20 April) for a period of eight hours and this will result in no water at all during this time. The work is expected to be completed by 04:00 on Wednesday morning (21 April).

Pressure management forms an integral part of the City's Water Demand Management Strategy whereby the objective is to reduce the pressure in the water supply lines to acceptable levels in order to increase the lifespan of the water reticulation network and to reduce water wastage resulting from pipe bursts caused by the high pressures in the system.

Residents of Delft are encouraged to store water in clean containers for domestic purpose, but there will be water tankers in the vicinity of Blikkiesdorp, Delft South, Rosenville and Voorbrug in the event of a delay in restoring the supply.

When the water flow is restored there might be a brief period when the water is slightly discoloured.

Residents must ensure that all taps are properly closed during the period of the interruption. Should a tap be inadvertently left open and the flow is restored while you are away from home, damage could be caused and a considerable amount of water wasted.

Notices of the water supply interruption have been distributed throughout Delft.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused.
