The Future of Human Settlements - A Frank Conversation With Minister Madikizela

1 December 2016

The delivery of human settlements is challenging, contentious and complex. Interested members of the media are invited to a rare opportunity to have a frank and robust discussion with Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela on the future of human settlements in the Western Cape.

Changes in the economy, and around the world, dictate that “business as usual” is out the door.  New approaches are required to best address Western Cape’s housing challenges, while maximising on available resources. Minister Madikizela will therefore share insights on topics which will change the landscape of Human Settlements going forward. These topics include:

  • Impact of MINMEC outcomes on human settlements
  • Catalytic projects
  • Performance vs Delivery
  • Accreditation of Metros (ie. City of Cape Town)
  • Forest Village development
  • N2 Gateway development
  • Alternative building technology
  • Affordable housing
  • The buying and selling of RDP/BNG houses
  • International insight

Media will also have an opportunity to raise and explore issues of concern directly with Minister Madikizela. This engagement will assist media in gaining clarity on complex topics that will impact public discourse regarding the future of human settlements.

As 2016 draws to a close, come and join Minister Madikizela for a frank and open discussion on the future of human settlements in the Western Cape.

All media are invited to attend:

 Date:             2 December 2016
Time:            10:00 am
