Forty Two Drivers Arrested Over Weekend for Driving under the Influence of Alocohol

24 July 2010

Provincial Traffic Services had twenty two (22) "Safely Home" roadblocks during the past weekend. The focus areas of these "Safely Home" roadblocks were, to monitor drivers driving under the influence of alcohol and to check for vehicle roadworthiness

At these operations nine hundred and eighty eight (968) drivers were screened for alcohol use while driving. Provincial Traffic officials arrested in total forty two (42) drivers for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. In other operations during the course of the weekend seven thousand six hundred and one (7601) vehicles were stopped and checked for roadworthiness, one thousand four hundred and eighty two (1482) fines were issued.

Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement wants to send out a clear message that lawlessness will not be tolerated on any public road in this Province and transgressors can expect these operations to continue for the rest of this year.
Every driver, passenger and pedestrian using a public road should do so in a responsible manner; obey the rules of the road and the traffic signs. Keep to the speed limit and use the road as if your fellow road users are your loved ones.

Note: Please act responsibly so everybody can arrive "Safely Home."
