Final Public Meeting on Grand Parade Upgrade Proposals

1 February 2007
The City of Cape Town and the Cape Town Partnership's Grand Parade Revitalisation Project is entering the final phase of its public participation process with an Open House and Public Meeting on 6 February. Mayor Helen Zille will open the meeting.

"The process kicked off in January 2006 and has been characterised by all sectors working together to find solutions that not only meet the needs of stakeholders, but also meet the needs of the broader Cape Town public", says Project Manager Lorryn McVitty, of the City's Spatial Planning Directorate.

Well attended, lively Public Workshops were held in March and August 2006.The highly participative process has resulted in much agreement being reached between the key stakeholders such as traders, transport operators and heritage groups.

The public participation process has now reached its closing stage in which the final draft Conceptual Spatial Development Framework is out for public comment, which must be submitted before 28 February 2007. Thereafter the Framework will be finalised and submitted to Council for approval.

On Tuesday, 6 February 2007 stakeholder representatives and members of the public will engage in a last round of debates and discussions around the final draft Conceptual Spatial Development Framework for the Grand Parade at a Public Meeting.

The meeting will also be used to establish a Stakeholder Task Group to ensure the ongoing involvement of all stakeholders and the general public as the project enters the detailed design and implementation phase.

The meeting will be preceded by an Open House where members of the project team will be on hand to informally explain and discuss their proposals with interested persons.
