EMS Alert: Motor Vehicle Accident on Buitenkant Street, Cape Town

The Western Cape Government Health's Emergency Medical Services responded to a motor vehicle accident earlier.

At 12:07 on Upper Buitenkant Street - The driver of an eight-ton truck loaded with gravel, travelling towards the city centre, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a stationary bakkie and then ploughed into a residence perimeter wall. The truck was found on its side with the gravel spilt in the road and the driver trapped in the cab of the vehicle. EMS rescuers used the Jaws of Life and a rip saw to remove the roof of the cab. The patient, an adult male in his thirties, suffered facial lacerations and a possible spinal injury. He was transported by ambulance to Cape Town Medi-Clinic.
