Economic outlook for SA agriculture to be released this week

The latest economic outlook for South Africa’s agriculture sector will be released this week.

The Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy’s (BFAP) Baseline 2017-2026, which is co-funded by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, will be published and discussed on Friday, 4 August.

Alan Winde, Minister of Economic Opportunities, will deliver the opening address at the event.

Titled “Managing Agriculture’s Footprint in an Uncertain Environment”, the Baseline presents an outlook of agricultural production, consumption, prices and trade in South Africa’s agricultural sector. Additionally, this year’s publication will also focus on the following key aspects:

  • Impact of drought on food security
  • Progress on land reform
  • Future focus areas to boost Africa’s agricultural sector

BFAP is a not-for-profit organisation which seeks to provide an evidence-base for decision makers in agriculture. The Baseline is jointly funded by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and ABSA Agribusiness.
