Drowning of Grade 7 Fish Hoek Learner at School Camp

4 March 2010

"I am deeply saddened by the death of a Grade 7 learner from Fish Hoek Primary School," said Western Cape Minister for Education Donald Grant.

"This tragedy has come as a great shock. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this very difficult time."

The learner is alleged to have drowned yesterday at a school camp in Worcester. The excursion had been organised by the school.

"We are currently investigating the incident and are doing all we can to assist the school. Our district officials were present at the school yesterday afternoon when the group returned from the trip. Psychologists and councilors are at the school this morning to assist with trauma counseling," he said.
