Department Recognises Long Service Achievements in Oudtshoorn

A total of 41 proud staff members at the Department of Transport and Public Works were honoured at the annual Eden/Central Karoo regional Long Service Awards ceremony in Oudtshoorn on 20 March 2015.

This was the final of four regional awards events hosted across the Western Cape this year. On the day Donald Grant , Minister of Transport and Public Works handed over certificates to staff members for completing 10, 30 and 40 years’ service in the public sector.

Minister Grant stressed the importance of human capital at the Department.

“It is important to acknowledge the contributions and efforts of these recipients who gave decades of service to the public service. Therefore, we value each one of them,” he said.

Minister Grant encouraged recipients to continue promoting road safety in their daily line functions and communities.

Reinet Sarikakis, who was the first female traffic officer in the Western Cape in 1996, was one of the honoured recipients on the day.

She has since been promoted to Chief Provincial Inspector at Mossel Bay Traffic Centre.

“To be able to make a contribution to the department for 30 years and being able to witness how the service improved over the years are some of my career highlights. I was also fortunate to have worked with inspirational and supportive colleagues during this period. This made it possible for me to draw much satisfaction from my job,” said Sarikakis.
