Department and Municipality Building Roads Better Together

The District Roads Engineer (DRE) of the Oudtshoorn Office of Transport and Public Works and the Eden District Municipality (EDM) recently completed the construction of a 650 metre tarred road in Ladismith.

During the construction of the R4.3 million road, officials from the DRE office trained various officials of EDM in different facets of road construction.

This included:

• Basic earthworks.
• Concrete work.
• Layer works.
• The final cut of the base course layer which is a highly technical skill.

The road leads from the R62 to the cheese factory in Ladismith.

Mr Juan Prodehl, Head of the DRE in Oudtshoorn says the two-month project provided an opportunity to transfer skills and to contribute to development in the town.
