DCAS Funding Help Grows Cape Winelands Sport

Cape Winelands sport federations received funding totaling R 1 470 000 from the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) to support their activities for the new financial year. The annual cheque handover took place at the Wellington Town Hall on Thursday, 19 April 2018. The funding will be divided across the Cape Winelands Sport Council and 29 federations from across the Cape Winelands region.

Executive Mayor of Drakenstein Municipality, Councillor Conrad Poole officially welcomed all guests to the handover, and thanked DCAS for its assistance with developing and promotion of sport in the region. “We wish to thank DCAS for its support in the development of our athletes and community” said Councillor Poole.

Minister Anroux Marais delivered the keynote address for the evening, and made mention of the amount of award winning athletes who originate from the Cape Winelands, and praised them for their achievements. “It gives me great pleasure to hand over R1 470 000.00 to the Cape Winelands federations today. This allocation will undoubtedly promote sport in order to contribute towards the reconciliation and development of the Western Cape community, through the provision of reputable, accessible and affordable sport facilities, programmes and services” said Minister Marais.

Chairperson of the Cape Winelands Sport Council, Lorenzo Arendse expressed their how grateful they are for the financial assistance from DCAS. “Thank you to DCAS for your partnership, and thank you to the administrators within the federations for their time and sacrifices that are made towards the development of sports” said Mr Arendse.

The Central Karoo cheque handover will take place on 23 April 2018 in Laingsburg.

DCAS supports sporting federations with funding. The funds should be used to develop and grow local sporting talent in our communities. Let us continue to grow our sporting talent BETTER TOGETHER.
