Coronavirus and vaccine rollout update by Acting Premier Bonginkosi Madikizela

As of 1pm on 10 March, the Western Cape has 2859 active Covid-19 infections with a total of 276 882 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 262 704 recoveries. A total of 19 879 out of the 25 960 vaccines received to date as part of the Sisonke trial, had been administered by 5pm on 9 March.

The Western Cape has recorded 14 additional deaths, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 11 319. We send our condolences to their loved ones at this time.

Healthcare worker vaccination update:

Today the Western Cape Department of Health provided an update on the first phase of the vaccination rollout in the Western Cape.

19 879 vaccines have thus far been administered (76,5% of allocation received) in the ongoing first round of vaccinations focused on the healthcare workers, both public and private. This translates to almost 1000 vaccinations administered per day since 17 February. 

As more vaccines arrive, more vaccination sites will be opened. There are currently 8 vaccination sites across the province consisting of both public and private vaccination sites. (Groote Schuur, Tygerberg, Khayelitsha District Hospital, Karl Bremer, Gatesville Melomed Hospital, Worcester, Paarl and George Hospital)
