City of Cape Town's Beach Walk Celebrates Women's Day

1 August 2010

The City of Cape Town's Sport, Recreation and Amenities Department will celebrate Women's Day by hosting a five kilometre (5 km) beach walk on Monday 09 August. The five kilometre (5 km) loop will start and end at the Strand Lifesaving Club in Beach Road. Participants will set-off at 08:00 and the cut-off time is 10:00.

"This recreational event serves as an opportunity for men, women, boys and girls, to celebrate and acknowledge Women's Day in a fun and healthy way. Whilst I want to encourage women to participate, I also want to encourage men and boys to join the walk to express solidarity with women and girls on this public holiday dedicated to highlighting their contribution to our country and communities, and their struggle for equality," said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services, Councillor Brett Herron.

Entry is free, but a maximum of five hundred (500) participants will be allowed to enter.

The public are therefore encouraged to enter early to avoid disappointment, as only those participants who have entered prior to the event will be able to participate. Entry forms are available at the Strand Swimming Pool from 02 August until 07 August 2010.

Medals will be given to all race participants and a lucky draw will be held after the event.
