Chapman's Peak Drive Re-opens

3 May 2012

Geotechnical engineers completed their report on Chapman's Peak on Thursday, 3 May 2012, clearing the way for the pass to be opened as soon as possible.

A preliminary report indicated that the pass would be closed for at least 24 hours while stabilisation work took place around catch-fence LEB 5. However, following extended efforts by the Entilini operations maintenance team to remove debris and loose materials from the scene and secure the base of the fence temporarily, the go-ahead has been given to re-open the pass.

"Work will continue to stabilise the affected area, but the engineering geologists approved the use of a stop-go traffic system to enable the pass to stay open while the work is done," Minister Robin Carlisle said.

Minister Carlisle congratulated the Entilini operations team for their exceptional dedication and hard work.
