Cape Town Warmly Welcomes Homeless World Cup Players

The 500 soccer players from 48 countries arriving in Cape Town this weekend for the Homeless World Cup soccer tournament, are to receive a hearty welcome from the City of Cape Town.

Deputy Mayor Andrew Arnolds is to host a welcome reception for these special visitors on Saturday, 23 September 2006 at the Cape Town Civic Centre.

In addition to the Deputy Mayor, other guest speakers include the Lord Provost of Edinburgh the right honorable Ms Leslie Hinds and Mr Mel Young, President and co-founder of the Homeless World Cup.

A ceremony will take place during which the World Cup trophy is officially handed over to South Africa by the previous host country and also the captain of the previous winning team.
