Affordable Housing Roadshow set to Raise Awareness In The Cape Winelands

20 September 2017

Tomorrow, Wednesday 20 September 2017, Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela will be in the Cape Winelands District, at Langeberg Municipality, as the Affordable Housing Roadshow continues.

The roadshow was launched at the beginning of this month and aims to inform the public of the various housing programmes available for people seeking access to affordable housing.

Details are as follow:

Langeberg Municipality Roadshow

Venue:   Civic Hall, 45 Willem Thys Avenue, Montagu
Date:       Wednesday, 20 September 2017
Time:       13h30 – 15h00

The Affordable Housing Roadshow, an initiative by the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements, will also highlight the following:

  • Planning for Affordable Housing projects in various municipalities.
  • The growth in the need for affordable housing by municipalities and the province as a whole
  • Assistance available for people wishing to purchase a home. This refers to the Finance Linked Institutional Subsidy Programme (FLISP). It provides a once-off down payment to households who have secured mortgage finance to acquire ownership of a residential property for the first time.  By reducing the initial mortgage loan amount, the monthly repayment instalments become more affordable. It is available to people earning between R3 500 and R 15 000. It can be used to purchase any residential property or previously subsidised housing stock as well as to build a house on a serviced stand (by NHBRC approved builders).
  • Social Housing.  This is a rental option, currently available to people earning between R1 500 and R 7 500 per month. It provides for secure long-term rental in properties owned and managed by Social Housing Institutions. These institutions are not government entities and are independently managed. Social Housing is delivered in designated Restructuring Zones which allows for highly favourable rental rates.

The Affordable Housing Roadshow will continue to the Witzenberg Municipal area as Minister Madikizela travels across the province to participate in workshops targeted at the GAP/affordable market.  Details will be made available during the course of the month.

All media are invited to attend.
