6-year-old Drummer, Daniel Petersen III, Visited Tygerberg Children's Hospital

9 September 2009
Six-year-old drummer, Daniel Petersen III, visited Tygerberg Children's Hospital today. The Daniel Petersen Foundation has identified the Tygerberg Children's Hospital as the beneficiary of Daniel's humanitarian efforts.

Daniel's exceptional talent was recognised by Yamaha during 2007. He made history when he became one of the youngest ever drummers - at the age of four - in the world, to receive a full endorsement from Yamaha upon recommendation of Mike Hardy Brown, General Manager of Yamaha SA.

Some of the events on Daniel's resume include:

  • Performance at Mr Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party. He received a standing ovation from the audience.
  • On Freedom Day, 27 April 2008, Daniel was part of the official Presidential Programme. He performed a solo performance just after the President Mbeki's speech. This event was broadcast live on our national television network SABC. The following day, Little Daniel who was picked up by the President Mbeki, was on the front page of all the newspapers.

Not only did Daniel perform for our Hospital Children, but he also handed out some educational books, toys etc. The idea is to make a video of Daniel's interaction with the children, which will be later displayed at his live recording DVD performance on the 29 & 30th September 2009. At this event Daniel will hand a cheque to our CEO, Dr Terence Carter, on behalf of our Children's Hospital.
