We all move for a reason: Western Cape Mobility Department invites residents to its first-ever Mobility Open Day
The Western Cape Mobility Department will launch October Mobility Month by opening its doors to residents for its first-ever Open Day. The event will be hosted on 1 October 2026 at the Vangate Shared Services Centre in Athlone.
Residents are invited to come and experience Mobility in action, with free services, practical assistance, interactive road safety experiences, career information and family-friendly activities on offer throughout the day.
The event will also kick off with an official parade by the Department’s Traffic Cadets, marking the start of October Mobility Month and the celebration of 70 years of Provincial Traffic in the Western Cape.
Visitors will be able to:
- Get a free vehicle safety check
- Register for the Jobseeker Travel Voucher Programme
- Get public transport permit assistance
- Visit a bicycle maintenance station
- Experience a drunk-walking simulation
- Explore electric vehicles
- Get information and assistance on motor vehicle licences, roadworthiness and driving licences
- Find out about the Traffic Officer Cadet bursary programme
- Access free health and eye checks
- Enjoy kids’ activities, food vendors and more
“Mobility is about much more than getting from one place to another. It is about connecting people to work, education, services and opportunities, and getting goods where they need to be. We all move for a reason.
For our Open Day, we’re inviting residents to come and meet the people behind our services, ask questions, make use of what we have on offer and learn more about how we are working to keep people and goods moving across the Western Cape” said Muneera Allie, Western Cape Mobility Head of Communication.
