Minister Sileku welcomes updated PRASA Western Cape train timetables
Western Cape Minister of Mobility, Isaac Sileku, has welcomed PRASA Western Cape's updated train timetables, which came into effect on Monday, 8 June 2026.
The updated train schedules on the Northern, Central and Cape Flats lines aim to make trains more reliable, reduce travel time, and increase the number of trips available to residents.
"Reliable public transport is essential for connecting residents to work, school and other opportunities. These timetable changes are an important step towards rebuilding confidence in passenger rail and encouraging more residents to use trains, helping to reduce road congestion and make daily travel easier," said Minister Sileku.
Some of the key changes include:
- More trains on the Wellington Line, increasing from 8 to 19 trips a day
- A new early morning train from Strand to Cape Town
- Better schedules on the Central Line to reduce delays
- A new early morning train from Nolungile to Cape Town
- Changes to peak-hour services on the Cape Flats Line to improve efficiency
- No changes to Southern Line services
Minister Sileku said the Western Cape Government remains committed to working with PRASA Western Cape and other stakeholders to improve passenger rail services.
"We want rail to become the backbone of an integrated public transport system in our province. By improving train services, we can make it easier for more residents to choose rail as a safe and reliable way to travel, with shorter waiting times and more reliable journeys," he said.
