Thusong Outreach Programme brings SMME Business Exhibition to Murraysburg, Beaufort West Municipal Area

On 23 June 2026, the Department of Local Government (DLG), through its Thusong and Community Development Worker Programmes, hosted a Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise (SMME) Business Exhibition in Murraysburg. The event aimed to expand access to socio-economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs and businesses and to stimulate local economic development by connecting SMMEs with markets, funding and business support services. It also brought together key stakeholders in enterprise development, finance and capacity building, creating a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Unlocking the economic potential of rural communities requires a coordinated, integrated approach that strengthens SMMEs and promotes sustainable local economic development. These enterprises play a vital role in job creation, poverty reduction, economic growth and community resilience. Through direct engagement with local businesses, stakeholders shared information on available support programmes, explored partnership opportunities and provided practical guidance to entrepreneurs. The exhibition helped build an enabling environment in which small businesses can grow, innovate and participate more meaningfully in the local economy.

This initiative forms part of DLG’s ongoing commitment to supporting entrepreneurship, stimulating economic activity and advancing inclusive growth across communities in the province. It is delivered in partnership with key government departments and development agencies, including the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, the Department of Small Business Development and the Small Enterprise Development Finance Agency. These partners promote entrepreneurship through business and skills development, improved market access and financial assistance. In addition, development finance institutions provide critical funding and grant support to help SMMEs establish, expand and achieve long-term sustainability.
