Serving his second term in office, Tertuis Simmers, the provincial Minister of the Department of Infrastructure, remains committed to actively shaping the future of our province's infrastructure landscape. The work of the Department of Infrastructure focuses on delivering excellent services to citizens, guided by key priorities, which includes the acceleration of delivery, embracing innovation, fostering meaningful partnerships, and building the sector's capacity.

Simmers is passionate about his portfolio and has a long-term vision for the Western Cape's infrastructure development. He believes that infrastructure is at the heart of economic growth that creates jobs in the fastest and most sustainable way, alleviating poverty, restoring dignity and uplifting communities.

Starting his second term, Simmers was also appointed as Leader of Government Business by Western Cape Premier Alan Winde. In this role, his primary responsibilities are to act as a liaison between the Executive and Parliament, to represent the Cabinet in Parliament, and to ensure the Executive’s legislative agenda progresses through Parliament.  

Simmers is a qualified Skills Development Facilitator, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management and is currently studying his MBA.
