Western Cape inaugural Infrastructure Ministerial Roundtable to accelerate growth through infrastructure
Media Release by Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers
With infrastructure development becoming an increasingly important driver of economic growth, job creation and investor confidence, the Western Cape Government will convene its inaugural Infrastructure Ministerial Roundtable in Cape Town on 30 July 2026.
Hosted by Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, the Roundtable will bring together leaders from government, municipalities, development finance institutions, the private sector, industry and academia to strengthen collaboration, unlock investment and accelerate infrastructure delivery across the province.
The Roundtable reflects the Western Cape Government's commitment to transforming the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered through stronger partnerships, greater transparency, and a shared vision for long-term growth.
At the centre of these discussions will be the Western Cape Infrastructure Framework 2050 (WCIF 2050) – the province's long-term blueprint for infrastructure-led development. The Framework positions infrastructure not simply as physical assets, but as a catalyst for economic opportunity, spatial transformation, social equity and environmental sustainability.
Supporting this vision are the Western Cape Infrastructure Strategy and the Western Cape Infrastructure Implementation Plan, which together provide the strategic direction and operational roadmap for infrastructure delivery across the province.
A key focus of the Roundtable will be the Western Cape Single Integrated Infrastructure Project Pipeline, which provides a coordinated approach to moving infrastructure projects from concept to implementation. By improving project preparation, strengthening governance, facilitating regulatory and legislative compliance, meeting investor requirements and embedding ISO 9001 quality management principles, the Pipeline is designed to accelerate delivery while providing greater certainty to investors and delivery partners.
Participants will also explore practical ways to strengthen collaboration between all spheres of government and the private sector, improve project readiness, unlock innovative financing mechanisms and expand the pipeline of bankable infrastructure projects capable of supporting sustainable economic growth.
Innovation will form another central theme of the Roundtable. Discussions will highlight how digital technologies, data-driven planning, modern procurement practices, integrated project management and emerging technologies are transforming infrastructure delivery by enabling smarter decision-making, improving efficiency, reducing risk and delivering better value for communities.
Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers said, "Infrastructure is no longer simply about constructing roads, schools or public buildings. It is about creating confidence, attracting investment, expanding economic opportunity, and improving the quality of life of every resident. Through the Ministerial Roundtable, we are bringing together the people who finance, plan, regulate and deliver infrastructure so that we can move further and faster together. We are fundamentally redefining public-private partnerships through transparency, certainty and collaboration. The Western Cape Government remains steadfast in its commitment to infrastructure-led growth, spatial transformation, job creation and building a future-ready province that delivers lasting value for generations to come."
The Western Cape Infrastructure Ministerial Roundtable represents an important milestone in strengthening partnerships that will help shape the province's infrastructure future and position the Western Cape as a leader in integrated infrastructure planning and delivery.
