- Its importance has increased following the closure of Meiringspoort due to severe flood damage
- The Swartberg Pass also sustained storm damage and is carrying significantly more traffic
- Essential repairs and maintenance are therefore underway to keep the pass safe and operational
- Stop-and-go traffic control will be in place for the next four weeks
