Minister Simmers assesses infrastructure damage in the West Coast

On 25 May 2026, Minister Simmers joined Premier Alan Winde and members of the Western Cape Cabinet on various site visits to several bridges and roads across the West Coast District Municipality that were damaged in recent floods.

The damage is extensive.

"I kindly request all Western Cape residents to please be patient while we assess damaged roads and plan for repair work," says Minister Simmers. "I also urge all road users to adhere to road signs and avoid using roads that are closed. Your safety comes first!"

At the moment the Department of Infrastructure's main priority is to restore access where communities are completely cut off and where emergency and service delivery access is required.

A big thanks to our roads teams who are on site, assessing the condition of our roads and working to ensure access to essential services.
