Franschhoek Pass flood damage repair update

It remains on the list of high priority repair projects. The road is closed due to multiple slope failures and slips along the route as well as significant damage to the Du Toits River Bridge which requires further intervention.

Route status

• Franschhoek Pass (MR191): REMAINS CLOSED until further notice
• Current projection: Opening under traffic accommodation by end October 2026

Project update

• Existing improvement works on the pass remain underway
• Additional identified damage forms part of the broader recovery programme
• Weather-related delays have impacted progress
