Apprenticeship opportunities

The Department of Infrastructure is inviting suitably qualified applicants to apply for funded apprenticeship opportunities in the Construction Sector. 

A 3-year and six months training programme will follow.

Apprenticeship programme entails: 

  • Institutional practical
  • practical training on site 
  • working on a building site
  • applying health and safety regulations
  • maintaining work areas
  • and undertaking administrative tasks.

Garden Route District

GRD

The Western Cape Government (WCG) Department of Infrastructure is inviting suitably qualified applicants residing in the Garden Route District to apply for funded Electrical apprenticeship opportunities in the Construction Sector. A 3-year and six months training programme will follow. 

Apprenticeship programme entails: 

  • Institutional practical, practical training on site; 
  • working on a building site; 
  • applying health and safety regulations; 
  • maintaining work areas; 
  • and undertaking administrative tasks.

Apprenticeship Electrical (Ref. APPELECGR)

  • Minimum requirements: 
  • Between 18 and 30 years old 
  • Must be SA citizen 
  • Resident of theGarden Route District 
  • Must be unemployed
  • Applicants with relevant experience in the trade will be recommended
  • Occupational Certificate Electrical: NQF L1 certificate in Electrical trade theory or TVET equivalent with a pass in Pure Mathematics and Science
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape

Other requirements:

  • Applicants must enjoy good health and be willing to undergo a medical and substance abuse examination.
  • Successful applicants will be required to work on a construction site as part of the training program.
  • Successful applicants must be willing to travel and work at various building sites across the Western Cape.
  • Successful applicants will be required to sign an apprenticeship contract with the Department.

Competencies: 

  • Technical Skills (practical) 
  • Numeracy Skills (determine mathematical ability) 
  • Literacy Skills (reading and writing ability) 
  • Knowledge of the Electrical Trade
  • General knowledge of the built environment.

Stipend: R5 500 per month for the duration of the apprenticeship Agreement

Applicants can use facilities at a local Library, Thusong Centre, E-Centre Youth Café or Internet Café OR personal smartphones to register on the SA Youth.Mobi platform.

Shortlisted candidates will be requested to upload certified copies of their ID and highest education certificate on the SAYouth.Mobi site when requested by the Department of Infrastructure.

Apprenticeship Bricklaying (Ref. APPBRICKOVB)

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Between 18 and 30 years old 
  • Must be SA citizen 
  • Resident of the Overberg District
  • Must be unemployed
  • Applicants with relevant experience in the trade will be recommended
  • Occupational Certificate Bricklayer: NQF L 3 certificate in Bricklaying trade theory or TVET equivalent with a pass in Mathematical Literacy
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape
