Another round of title deeds handed over in partnership with FNB
Media Release by Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers
Today, 27 October 2025, in partnership with First National Bank (FNB), Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure handed over a batch of 44 title deeds to beneficiaries of FNB’s housing subsidy initiative for financially distressed customers. This is the second group who has benefitted from this programme this year.
Minister Simmer said, “This special occasion was made possible through a powerful partnership between the Western Cape Government and First National Bank. It is a partnership rooted in a shared belief that housing is not only about bricks and cement but about restoring dignity, building stability, and creating pathways to prosperity."
This FNB initiative aims to assist financially distressed homeowners by utilising approved housing subsidies to settle outstanding loan amounts, enabling the cancellation of bonds and the issuance of title deeds. This intervention provides financial relief to beneficiaries, ensuring they gain unencumbered original title deeds. Beneficiaries who received title deeds today include residents from across Cape Town as well as Paarl and Stellenbosch.
“Our previous title deed handover with FNB and today’s handover are just the beginning of a very fruitful partnership. This initiative aligns with my ministerial priorities which include partnership and acceleration. We intend to build on these successes and ensure more of our human settlement beneficiaries have unencumbered ownership of their homes. Having a title deed, owning a home, means more than just the piece of paper, it provides opportunities for the beneficiaries and their families," Minister Simmers concluded.
