Invitation to nominate members to hospital facility boards and clinic committees

Want to make a difference as a voice for your community? Then you are invited to serve as a clinic committee / hospital board member and represent your health facility and community.
The Provincial Minister of Health and Wellness therefore invites bodies to nominate persons to serve on newly constituted clinic committees and hospital boards for the period 2026-2029, as per the advert put out by the department on 22 May 2026 with a closing date of 31 August 2026.

The term of office of many Hospital Facility Boards and Clinic Committees constituted in terms of the Western Cape Health Facility Boards and Committees Act, 2016 (“the Act”), will expire.
The Provincial Minister of Health and Wellness therefore invites community organisations and individuals to nominate suitable persons to serve on newly constituted boards and committees.
In accordance with section 5(1) of the Act, the Provincial Minister must appoint to a Board not more than 14 members, including:
a) Persons representing the community or communities served by the hospital for which the Board is established.
b) At least one person with technical expertise in business, law, finance, accounting, or another area relevant to the functions of the Board.
c) The head of the hospital.
d) At least one person representing the clinical staff of the relevant hospital, nominated by the clinical staff of that hospital.
e) At least one person representing the non-clinical staff of the relevant hospital, nominated by the non-clinical staff of that hospital.
f) In the case of a hospital where health professionals are trained, at least one person representing the academic interests of the hospital, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor of the relevant university.
In accordance with section 6(1) of the Act, the Provincial Minister must appoint to a Committee not more than 12 members, including:
a) One or more councillors of the municipal council for the municipal area in which the primary health care facility is situated, nominated by the municipal council or a health-related committee of the municipal council.
b) Members of the community or communities served by the primary health care facility for which the Committee is established.
c) The head of the primary health care facility.
The following hospitals and clinics require a full complement of members. Nomination forms may be obtained from and submitted to the nearest health facility or requested from the relevant contact persons listed below.

For all nominees, the following information is required:
- A signed copy of the nomination form.
- The name of the facility for which the nomination is made.
- The full name and address of the nominee.
- A signed copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae.
- Motivation explaining why the nominee is considered suitable for appointment to the Board or Committee.
- A declaration by the nominee confirming willingness to serve as a member of the Board or Committee.
- In addition to the above, nominations made in terms of sections 5(1)(a) and 6(1)(b) of the Act (community representatives) must also include:
- The full name and address of the community body nominating the candidate, together with a copy of its constitution or founding document.
- An indication of whether the nominee is a member of the nominating body and, if so, the duration of membership. If the nominee is not a member, reasons for the nomination must be provided.
Persons or bodies making nominations, as well as nominees, are requested to note the following:
- Appointment to a Board or Committee rests solely with the Provincial Minister of Health and Wellness.
- Membership of a Board or Committee is voluntary and carries no remuneration.
- Members may, however, be reimbursed for approved travelling and subsistence expenses incurred.
Training will be provided to all appointed members.
