AgriSuite Online® is an internet and mobile phone application that was developed to address the lack of agricultural information among small scale farmers (food garden and household producers). This agricultural information system is specifically developed and maintained for farmers in Southern Africa. It has been thoroughly tested in the agricultural industry in South Africa over the past two years.
The AgriSuite Online® system works across a range of devices, including desktop PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones and is independent of operating systems. The system is browser based and therefore allows users to access the system on any popular browser. AgriSuite Online® gives immediate access to production, market, weather and other agro-climatic information; agricultural infrastructure and stakeholder data; and access to expert advice, etc. – all critical aspects in farming and food security planning and management.
AgriSuite Online® will be made available via the Agri-Touch information kiosks. These kiosks have been displayed at agricultural events, such as the Bien Donne and Merino Week expo’s and was showcased at the minister’s 2014/15 budget speech at the Provincial Legislature in March. The application development is close to completion and it is expected that the kiosks will be distributed and operational in the earmarked locations in the second financial quarter of 2014.
