Two Rivers Urban Park (TRUP) Regeneration

The Two Rivers Urban Park (TRUP), is located along the banks of the Liesbeek and Black Rivers in the City of Cape Town. The development of the precinct represents a mega project, which will prepare 250ha of land over the next 15 years to create a mixed-use integrated development.

This development will make the design concept of "Live, Work and Play" a reality. The main component will be residential. Science-related, pharmaceutical and health facilities as well as commercial and urban agriculture opportunities will provide employment.
One of the major challenges for this project is that the available infrastructure is barely sufficient to serve the current 300 000m² of buildings, whereas the planned design is for 1 250 000m². Large-scale infrastructure works will be required.

TRUP is currently a neglected and underdeveloped area because of the lack of basic infrastructure (water, electricity, sewage, roads, etc.). By identifying all the necessary components to make this project a reality, satisfying solutions could be found. The TRUP designers needed a deep understanding of complex regulations, materials, technologies, time, costs and resources in order to create a beautiful and functional space.
