Classifications, Schedules and Codes

HOSPITAL CLASSIFICATION
The three hospital levels, from least to most expensive, are:
- Level 1 - district hospitals where there are limited specialist services.
- Level 2 - regional hospitals which have at least two specialist services.
- Level 3 - academic hospitals which have most specialist services, namely Groote Schuur, Red Cross and Tygerberg hospitals.
PROFESSIONAL CLASSIFICATION
The different professional categories are, from least to most expensive:
- Nursing practitioner (NP).
- Allied health practitioner (AP).
- General practitioner (GP).
- Specialist medical practitioner (SP).
