MEC hosts Catholic University of Munich at Chrysalis Academy - 20 January 2012

The Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Albert Fritz, hosted a German delegation from the Catholic University of Munich on a tour of the Chrysalis Academy in Tokai on 20 February 2012.

 

This visit followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the University of the Western Cape and the Catholic University of Munich. The focus of the visit was on strengthening communities through the application of research, development and training with the specific focus of a partnership between the University and the Department of Social Development. The delegation led by the Minister and the Chrysalis team included a tour of the facility which showcased all that the Academy has to offer.

 

The 3 month residential holistic programme at the Chrysalis Academy focuses on strengthening youth through physical activities, cognitive- life skills training, emotional training and spiritual upliftment. Youth are taught skills of trade such as welding, carpentry, cookery and fire fighting with the purpose of reintegrating back into society. Since the facility's establishment in the year 2000 a total of 5000 graduates have successfully completed the course at Chrysalis.

The Western Cape Government aiming to work better together in developing the youth of the Western Cape.
