NEIGHBOURHOOD SCHOOL PROGRAMME (MOD PROGRAMME)

2020
(Department of Cultural Affairs & Sport, Western Cape Government)

DCAS creates next-level opportunities for school-going youth, in recreation and sport, as well as in arts and culture. The department provides support to interested schools that are neighbouring the MOD Centres. This approach has assisted with neighbourhood development, as it links the MOD Centres, to the relevant recreation, sport, arts and culture activities and structures that are present in a specific neighbourhood and if these are not present, then School Sport drives a process that will give rise to the relevant activity and/or structure, e.g. a sport club and/or a dance club. In addition, School Sport is clustering at least one set of neighbouring neighbourhoods per School Sport district, thereby adopting a more focused approach, which is proving to be more effective. The contact details and GPS coordinates of the schools that are involved in the neighbourhood programme is available online.
