Consumer Advisory Services Offered via the Advice Office Programme

The OCP currently funds 24 advice offices across the province. These Advice offices can be found in the metropolitan areas and also in a vast majority of rural areas. Currently 6 of these advice offices are situated in the Cape Town metro area (Athlone, Bonteheuwel, Guguletu, Heideveld, Khayelitsha, Mitchell's Plain).

This programme initially commenced during 1999 and entailed the provincial department utilising local community advice offices within specific areas within the province to provide consumer advisory services to local consumers and communities.

The main thrust behind this programme was to ensure service delivery to as wide a cross section of the population as possible within the constraints of limited financial and human resource capacity. It was also envisaged that the programme would enable the department to harness the knowledge of local non profit organisations and enhance their skills base and thereby provide improved access to services within these local communities.
