Madeliefie Makietie 2015

madeliefie makietie

The West Coast town of Vredendal  will be  hosting the Madeliefie Makietie festival from 24 to 27 September. Previously known as the NamaquaFees, the vision of the festival is to contribute to positive social change in Vredendal and the Matzikama community. This annual spring festival is a valuable contributor to the economy of the region.

Madeliefie Makietie will be taking place on the sports grounds in Vredendal from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 September 2015. General organisers of the project committee, Kallie Louw and Ric Coetzee, are extremely excited about the project and added: “Matzikama’s flowers are a huge attraction for the region’s tourism sector. People even come from overseas to witness the colourful fields of Madeliefies. It’s the perfect time of year to celebrate both our flowers and the community with the new Madeliefie Makietie.”

The festival programme has something in store for everyone – young and old. Some of the highlights include:

  • the Maskam 4X4 challenge,
  • the Miss Madeliefie competition,
  • the Daisy Zing Singing competition,
  • a baby expo,
  • a braai competition,
  • a sportsbar where you can watch the Rugby World Cup Rugby matches between New Zealand vs. Namibia and Argentina vs. Georgia,
  • a variety of food stalls that will tempt you between shows,
  • a variety of artists performing during the day, and
  • a play park for the kids.

An agricultural expo is also included in this year’s event. Various agricultural mechanisation suppliers will exhibit their newest machinery at the festival, providing visitors with a valuable insight into the local agricultural community trends.

The yearly Lions Maskam 4x4 challenge is very popular and offers participants a choice between different routes. The entry fee will be approximately R350 for a vehicle that includes 4 people. This price also includes 2 adult tickets to Saturday’s Madeliefie Makietie.

Entertainment won’t be in short supply either, with big names in the local music industry performing at the festival. It won’t be your usual festival performance as different artists will be joining each other on stage, keeping the audience glued to the concert.

Popular artists like Elvis Blue, Nicholis Louw, NRG, Lianie May, Snotkop, Ray Dylan, Jay du Plessis, Elizma Theron, Liezel Pieters and Die Heuwels Fantasties are already confirmed.

Come and enjoy the natural beauty of the region and experience the local culture through art, food and music.

You can also enjoy nature’s gift of flowers by visiting the wildflower routes in the Richtersveld National Park, Goegap Nature Reserve and Skilpad Wildflower Reserve.

Enjoy the flowers on a walking trail, cycling route or go for a picnic at 1 of the designated picnic spots. What better time to enjoy the flowers of the Western Cape, it is the time of year for nature’s own ‘madeliefie makietie’ after all.
