Find a Job at the Western Cape Government
The Western Cape Government offers a range of jobs and is focused on improving the lives of people in the province.
Our dedicated employees are testament to the hard work and effort we put into everything we do, and one such example is Lindy Cain, a nurse in the post-natal ward at Karl Bremer Hospital in Bellville.
The post-natal ward is home to mothers and their new babies soon after birth, until they are discharged. Moms and babies are monitored to check their health and recovery and moms are given advice on how to adapt to life with a new baby. Nurses also show mothers how to bath and feed their babies, administer medicine (if needed) and take care of their bodies after birth.
Cain, a nurse for 19 years, says she loves helping others and working at Karl Bremer allows her the opportunity to meet and take care of various types of people.
“I feel this is my calling. My most favourite part is saving a life: in cases where a patient gets a heart attack or stops breathing, you do your resuscitation and bring them back to life again”.
She also enjoys helping new mothers get accustomed to taking care of a new babies: “post natal is an after-birth ward and everyday I get to see plus minus 20 newborns. They are the cutest.”
