Deaf Awareness Month, also known as the National Month of the Deaf, is observed annually in September in commemoration of the first congress of the World Federation of the Deaf which took place in September 1951.
The United Nations International Day of Sign Languages takes place on 23 September each year and International Week of the Deaf is commemorated from Monday to Sunday during the last full week of September.
