1. How Do Organisations Apply?
Fill in the registration form, together with two copies of organisation's founding documents or constitutions to the NPO Directorate.

2. Which Organisations Can Apply?
Any organisation that is not for profit and is not part of government can apply for registration ie voluntary associations/NGOs, Section 21 companies, and trusts.

3. How Much Does it Cost to Register an NPO?
NPO registration is free of charge.

4. Where Do I Find an Application Form and Model Constitution?
An application form is available on request from the department; the telephone number is 012 312 7500 or on this website. Send the documents to Department of Social Development, Private Bag X901, Pretoria, 0001, or Human Science Research Council (HSRC) Building, Fifth Floor, 134 Pretorius Street, Pretoria, 0001.

5. What are the Benefits for Registration
Your organisation can access funding from National Lotteries Trust, NDA and other agencies. Your organisation can also apply for tax exemption status with SARS.

6. Is the Government Funding NPOs after Registration?
The NPO Directorate's role is to register organisations and not to fund them. The Act only creates an enabling enviroment for organisations to operate and flourish.

7. What is an Accounting Officer?
In terms of Close Corporation Act of 1984, an Accounting Officer is a registered person paid to deal with organisations' books of accounts according to accounting and financial procedures and principles.

8. How Can We Appeal against the Decision of the Directorate after De-Registration?
Send us a letter of appeal and you will be informed about the exact date of hearing.

9. Can I Re-Apply after being De-Registered?
Yes, you can re-apply by sending us the original certificates and two copies of the organisation's founding documents as well as the application form.
