The Alcohol Harms Reduction Game Changer

(Western Cape Government)

The Alcohol Harms Reduction Game Changer is one of seven priority interventions being driven by the Western Cape Government in the province.

The Game changer is focused on reducing the alcohol related harms in three target areas namely, Khayelitsha Town 2, parts of Gugulethu and Nyanga (Gunya) and Drakenstein Municipality.

We are rolling out a number of interventions in these areas that are focused on reducing access to alcohol, increasing a sense of safety, increasing recreational activities for young people and providing alcohol related social and health services to communities.

The key to the success of our Game Changer is the support and involvement of communities in our target areas.

We have been engaging with residents and finding out from them what they think will reduce alcohol abuse and crime in their area. We have also been providing support to some of their suggested interventions, including supporting community sports and recreational tournaments.
