The Department of Community Safety is responsible for Civilian Oversight over Police, Traffic Management and Crime Prevention & Community Police Relations in the Western Cape.

  The Department delivers the following broad range of services:
  • Increase safety in communities by improving the performance of policing through effective oversight.
  • Make Safety everyone's responsibility by means of building partnerships, creating forums for promoting active citizenship in the field of community safety.
  • Maintain law and order for all modes of transport by providing consolidated and integrated traffic policing operations.
  • Elevate security measures to minimize security breaches in respect of theft and unauthorised access to Western Cape Government buildings.

 

  These services are delivered through five programmes:
  • Administration.
  • Civilian Oversight.
  • Crime Prevention & Community Police Relations.
  • Traffic Management (provincial traffic).
  • Security Risk Management.
