Western Cape to Honour Sport Stars

On Friday, 1 March 2013, the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr. Ivan Meyerwill host the annual Provincial Sport Awards at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West.

The awards recognise sportsmen, sportswomen, coaches and administrators who have excelled during the period 16 October 2011 to 30 September 2012.

Sportsmen who have been nominated for recognition include amongst others, cricketer, Vernon Philander; power lifter, Christo Jordaan; wrestler, Kurt Herzog, and kick boxer, Lucky Mokate.

The title of sportswomen of the year will be contested by canoeist, Robyn Kime; gymnast, Christy Nel; kick boxer, Audrey Lawrence and rugby player, Marthrin Simmer.

Western Cape based London 2012 Paralympic medalists will also be honoured.
