Hilarious Comedy Drama Hits the Stage in Beaufort West

24 October 2012

A hilarious comedy drama called Laugh Out Loud (LOL) will hit the stage in Beaufort West on Saturday 27 October 2012. The event is testament to the long-lasting beneficial impact of drama development work by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and its partners in the Central Karoo region.

In 2011, the Department and its partners organised Arts Week in Beaufort West. Various development workshops were held for local performers, particularly stage performers. The Central Karoo Drama Project was launched by the Department to provide further training in performance and drama development as well as organisational development. Local artists went on to launch an independently managed organisation called the Beaufort West Community Theatre.

Local actors and stand-up comedians have together with their mentor Ms Wendy Antonie developed the production LOL which will be seen on Saturday. The drama comprises three hilarious acts which poke fun at everyday issues that face ordinary people in a rural community. Several of the performers appeared on stage at Die BurgerSuidoosterfees last year.

Mr Adrian Kearns of the Directorate: Arts and Culture said it is remarkable that the actors are organising their own drama event. “The workshops have made a significant difference in the actors’ lives and it’s obvious that their drama development will continue, creating improving opportunities for them over time. This event will definitely enhance drama development in the region”, he said.
