In Tune with Young Musicians at Arts Week

8 October 2012

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) and its partners are in tune with aspiring musicians from the Louwville community in Vredenburg. Youths from this area are currently benefiting from a three-day musical workshop with professional musicians at Weston High School. The aim is to equip the participants with important techniques and skills, including music notation skills.

One of the facilitators, Mr Lwanda Gogwana of the Gogwana Music Company, says what participants are learning will uplift the community. Mr William Masemola of the Directorate: Arts and Culture says that as the young people receive opportunities to improve their musical skills, they are becoming inspired. “To see so many young people here demonstrates that they are keen to be involved and it’s clear that they’re not only learning new skills, but also having fun,” Masemola said.

DCAS is bringing fun-filled opportunities for young people to participate in arts and culture development activities. The Vredenburg participants will be performing at the Arts Week main event at the school on Friday, 5 October 2012.
