Media Alert: Arts, Culture and Heritage Policy Summit

Approximately 300 arts, cultural, language and heritage practitioners from across the Western Cape will be putting their heads together, discussing and making last changes to the Department's Cultural Policy at a summit to be held at the Ritz Hotel in Sea Point.

The purpose of the summit is to ensure that all stakeholders are afforded a last chance to transform and input into the policy especially those who may have missed the series of consultations with other communities of the province. The summit marks the end of the public participation exercise, with workshops having been already held in 4 other regions of the Western Cape.

MEC Jacobs says, "Great strides have already been achieved in transforming the policy under review. The fact that we are now reviewing Draft No.18 is indicative of the enthusiasm and the will of our stakeholders to take ownership of the process and assist to transform the cultural landscape in the Western Cape." He says, "Last comments to the policy will be recorded and due changes accordingly effected before presenting the final Cultural Policy document to the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Sport and to cabinet for approval and subsequent implementation".
