Launch of Strategy To Engage Learners After School Hours

7 February 2006
In a first for the Western Cape, MEC Jacobs will launch the Social Incubator Programme - a strategy aimed at empowering and engaging learners after school hours as a Departmental contribution to the Provincial Social Capital strategy.

The Social Incubator programme will see the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport deploy resources and personnel to provide a wide range of arts, culture, sport and recreation activities after school hours and help reduce the dangers and social-ills confronting learners and youth, due large to the lack of organized activities. The initial implementation phase will cost the department approximately one million rands at identified nodal areas. The areas to benefit from this groundbreaking intervention include schools in Khayelitsha, Mitchell's Plain and Beaufort West.

An exhibition of all planned cultural, sport and recreation activities will be showcased at the launch as stated hereunder.

Venue: O.R Tambo Hall (Mew Way) Khayelitsha
Date: Thursday, 9th February 2006
Time: 13h00
