Cape Metropole Musicians Urged to Attend Workshop

22 May 2006
The Western Cape Musicians Associations will be hosting its first feedback session on Thursday, 25th May 2006 from 12:30 to 14:30, at the Baxter Theater. This is for all musicians based in the Cape metropole region.

The Western Cape Musicians Association is an initiative by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport , this was instituted after the illness of jazz legend, Robbie Jansen where the Department was once again reminded of the plight and rights of musicians the lack of medical and pension funds and the need to establish a benevolent fund.

The Department after various meetings with the Interim Musicians lobby hosted the first General Conference at the V & A Waterfront in March 2006. The key objective of the conference was to get a mandate from the music industry on issues of importance. To create a platform for musicians and other artists in the music industry to perform at the events hosted in the Province, as well as to form a partnership between the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and the broader music industry.

The event at the Baxter will see Ian Smith of jazz band Virtual Jazz Reality give feed back on the progress made to date as well as to encourage musicians to signup and be part of the musicians database. All media as well as musicians are invited to attend the event.
