MEC Jacobs Urges Soccer Fans to Support Vasco

24 May 2006
In a yet another demonstration of commitment by the Provincial Government to improve the culture of support for Cape Town based professional teams, MEC Jacobs has pledged a 1000 tickets to local fans to enable them to attend the 2nd round match between Vasco Da Gama and Bush Bucks on Sunday, 28 May at Bellville Velodrome stadium.

Mr Jacobs says, "Vasco Da Gama has progressed very impressively this season and have staged an exceptional performance away from home when they thrashed Bush Bucks 2-0 in the first round a fortnight ago. This intervention from government is an effort to ensure there was a good turnout of home crowd to cheer Vasco to victory when they lock horns with Bush Bucks in the second round, a match that has far reaching consequences for the prospects of Cape Town based professional teams. I am appealing to the soccer community of Cape Town in particular to come in their numbers to support Vasco. I also want to take this opportunity to wish them success in their quest for the PSL status."

Details of how the tickets will be distributed will be made available to the radio stations of Cape Town. MEC will distribute 500 tickets equitably to all radio stations and listeners are encouraged to listen and make sure to contact the stations of their choice between Friday afternoon and Saturday. Another 500 tickets have already been distributed to schools.
