MEC of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation to Welcome Iraqi Soccer Team

The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation, Mr Sakkie Jenner together with the Iraqi ambassador to South Africa, Mr Rasheed Alawsy; will on Saturday 6 June 2009 welcome the Iraqi soccer team, when they arrive at Cape Town International Airport. The Iraqi team plays against Bafana Bafana in the opening game of the FIFA Confederations Cup, which kicks off in South Africa, on 14 June 2009.

Iraq, during the Schools Confederations Cup, was twinned with the Western Cape, in the run-up to the Confederations Cup.

Time: 17H15 (05H15 pm)

Venue: Cape Town International Airport International Arrivals

The Iraqi team's warm-up game to the Confederations Cup will be a friendly match against Poland - currently on training camp in Cape Town. The match will kick-off at 17H15 on 9 June 2009 at the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
