Minister Sakkie Jenner Calls On All Capetonians to Support Local Soccer

10 August 2010

The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation, Mr. Sakkie Jenner has called upon all Capetonians to support local soccer.

Jenner's call follows the announcement that two matches will be played at the New Cape Town Stadium on 27 August 2010.

'This is indeed for us as Capetonians an opportunity to once again get into the spirit of supporting our local soccer matches. Orlando Pirates will be playing against the youngest PSL team Vasco Da Gama, while Ajax Cape Town will be battling it out against the Bloemfontein Celtics,' says Minister Jenner.

'The Stadium which was built at a cost of R4.4 billion, will become redundant if we do not do our utmost to support the events which are scheduled to take place at the stadium.'

'We must remember that the Cape Town Stadium is a lasting legacy of the recently completed FIFA 2010 World Cup. It is up to us to ensure that the feeling of patriotism which was experienced during the World Cup, can be continued and sustained,' Jenner adds.

'This venue has, through its establishment, ensured a safe, state of the art venue for sport to be practiced and played in the Western Cape. So let's blow our vuvuzela's in support of local soccer.'
